What I am posting here is very important.
If you have seen the Al Gore movie, then you know what I mean.
It is time to get serious about the petroleum problem,
and to quickly switch to “appropriate” fuels.
My partners and I are starting GreenNow as an information hub to facilitate the changeover to sustainable non-polluting fuels and energy. This blog is the first step toward that goal. We trust you will find it very helpful and that it will save you many hours of searching for these resources all by yourself.
We invite any and all interested people and groups to participate in our networking hub.
Currently we are drafting our business proposal and seeking investors. But mostly, if you or your group or community are at all interested in becoming a sustainable community, you should connect with us, get on our newsletter list, and get all the info about this.
This video was just put up in August-06, and it is the current state-of-the-art information on the most historic financial energy opportunity ever--Bio-fuels. Mr. Khosla is a seriously successful and respected business man who lays out all the facts on this subject more clearly than any we have seen yet. This same presentation was given to the US senate energy committee at their request, and was extremely well received. More information is available at Mr. Khosla's website, where the powerpoint link below takes you.

Sustainable Ballard is the most together urban sustainable community we have found. This website is loaded with useful information about community sustainability in operation. This group has seriously made headway into becoming the model for other urban communities to emulate, and their experience is growing by leaps and bounds. One of their most successful projects was a hands-on bio-diesel class in the local High School.
Sustainable Ballard will help you out with any questions on how to do the same with your community. They have many valuable resources to learn from and lots of experience.

NCAP is one of the oldest websites serving the green energy interests of US citizens. It has many grant-funded projects like the one they do in Montana to teach farmers and ranchers how to grow green fuels for sustainability among many other things. This group is both non-profit and for-profit. It is a leader in providing information and resources; but it's strongest points seem to be in the ways they can help out if you are needing funding or learning about sustainable techniques. They have info for organic sustainable food crops, and water-saving irrigation techniques too.

FRUEL is here! FREE FUEL FOR YOUR MUNICIPALITY!
(if you hurry)

Greg Goble is the founder of the non-profit business called "Fruel"--which means "FREE FUEL" for all municipalities! This is no joke; it is a very serious plan and application with extensive research and lots of government documents to prove it will work. BUT HURRY! The carpet-baggers would like you to pay for the dumping of the municipal waste materials, which they would collect from tax payers, and then sell it back to the taxpayers as ethanol fuel for the municipal vehicle fleets across the country.
BUT Mr. Goble's plan shows how every municipality could not only save the taxpayers the expense of dumping the municipal waste, but also fuel all the municipal vehicles and still have lots of ethanol left to power Metro-transit buses or school buses. WOW! This is the most powerful community sustainable plan for cities we have ever seen!
Check out all his links and see the proof, using the government's own facts and figures on bio-fuels made from refuse and garbage. This is one to act on immediately, and get your local municipal government going in the right direction. The President signed the Energy bill last year, which mandates all government municipalities to become sustainable and non-polluting with their fuels. Many State and local governments have followed suit with similar bills or laws now, so this should be easy to get rolling in your community.
The facts on this website will blow your mind as to how close we are to actually not needing any petroleum at all in this country; and most of all--it costs less than it does to dump our trash--to make free ethanol fuel from our waste!

Perhaps the most powerful network for expanding the "leading edge" of environmentally friendly and ecologically sane systems and technologies. Bioneers does an annual gathering of expert speakers and workshops on creating a balance with nature in all human systems. Here's what they have to say about their network, "Bioneers Community Network (BCN) is about building community around a shared vision of restoration and democracy."
"In the spirit of the annual Bioneers Conference, BCN seeks to connect networks, providing tools that assist in the formation of communities - both virtual and actual. The first three domain communities are Ecological Medicine, Food and Farming and Youth Leadership. Green Communities & Eco Villages
Green Communities & Eco Villages
<><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><>
This is the most ambitious eco-village concept we have heard about, but based more for "mainstream" people rather than the typical new age environmentalist. These folks have plans, well-laid-out descriptions of each facet, and a proposal for the forming of a green sustainable village of 10,000 people--a great idea and a noble endeavor. Definitely worth checking out and possibly joining. Seems like $30,000-$40,000 gets your land to build on to be part of it, but there is obviously some kind of screening process too. This may seem like a new "pipedream" to some, but it is very well thought out. Definitely the wave of the future, based on sound principles and good research. After reading all the details, I certainly want to join up or connect with them. Fits our "Green City" idea!http://www.for-the-future.org/index.aspx

A HUGE International Network of ecovillages! In their own words, "The Global Ecovillage Network is a global confederation of people and communities that meet and share their ideas, exchange technologies, develop cultural and educational exchanges, directories and newsletters, and are dedicated to restoring the land and living "sustainable plus" lives by putting more back into the environment than we take out. GEN's main aim is to support and encourage the evolution of sustainable settlements across the world, through:- Internal and External Communications services; facilitating the flow and exchange of information about ecovillages and demonstration sites;
- Networking and project coordination in fields related to sustainable settlements; and
- Global cooperation/Partnerships (UN Best Practices, EU Phare, EYFA, Ecosoc)."

This group has bought an apartment building and a few quads. They feature a cooperative "lease to own" process for members, plus tons of information on urban sustainability.
In their own words, "When we started the processes of creating an ecovillage in January 1993, very few residents knew each other, most were fearful of their neighbors, and there were no neighborhood activities."
"A sampling of our accomplishments includes:
- We purchased the 40 unit apartment building in our neighborhood in 1996 and the adjacent 8 unit apartment building in 1999 with loan monies raised through our ecological revolving loan fund (ELF).
- An environmental educational program was created for the K-2 children at White House Place Primary Center in Eco-Village. This program is not currently functional (2004).
- Nearly a dozen small gardens and more than 100 fruit trees have been planted in the two block neighborhood.
- Approximately 100 cubic yards of green wastes have been composted in the neighborhood.
- Twenty tons of red clay brick from the 1994 earthquake were diverted from the landfill for Eco-Village beautification projects.
- Weekly community potluck brunches or dinners continue to build a sense of community among neighbors.
- Tours are conducted throughout the year to acquaint the general public with the processes of creating sustainable community.
- A consensus oriented intentional community of 40 persons has been developed.
- The Bike Kitchen has been established as a center for advancing the best of bicycle culture in Los Angeles. See
. - 2004 sees the launching of the Institute for Urban Ecovillages, a training center that plans to stimulate and provide resources to many ecovillages in the L.A. area.
- 35 of the 40 units in our large building have been rehabilitated and approximately a dozen persons trained in basic rehab skills.
- The landscape around our buildings has been transformed into a soil regenerating food producing soul healing environment."

In their own words, " The purpose of the OWG is to organize the founding of an ecological village in Eastern Oregon. Some of the guiding concepts that underpin our approach to the project can be found in those of generative processes, pattern language and deep ecology. The OWG is conceived along process lines instead of project lines. This means that there is, initially, less of a concern about building sustainable buildings and growing organic foods than there is in creating a social dynamic that can, in turn, unfold into a community rooted in love, in living, in the organic and the truly sustainable. Something that can be applied not as a comfortable, priviledged lifestyle superimposed on the prevailing social reality, but a way of living and being that can actually aid in changing that reality.
